He/she is a critical member of the Engine Department on a cruise ship and acts as the Engineer Watch Officer in the engine control room. They oversee the operation, maintenance, and

3-RD ENGINEER

OILER

Provides general assistance to licensed engineers and superior engine room ratings in different tasks in the engine room, such as general maintenance and repair of the various machinery and equipment, material handling equipment throughout the ship including elevators and winches, general cleaning and painting of the engine room, trash pickup, tools and instruments pick up and cleaning.
Wiper is an entry-level position in the engine department of a cruise ship. The main responsibility of a Wiper is to help licensed engineers and superior engine room ratings in various tasks, including general maintenance and repair of machinery and equipment, material handling equipment, and cleaning and painting of the engine room. In addition, the Wiper may be responsible for trash pickup, tools and instrument cleaning, and other general tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the engine department. The role of a Wiper is an entry-level position, it can serve as a steppingstone for career advancement within the engine department, with opportunities for on-the-job training and skill-building.


CHIEF ELECTRICIAN
The Chief Electrician in a cruise ship is responsible for overseeing the operation and maintenance of the electrical plant and associated electrical systems throughout the ship. This involves ensuring that all electrical equipment and machinery, including elevators, fire alarm systems, diesel electric propulsion, navigation equipment, nor control systems, cycloconverter propulsion systems and all associated systems are properly operated and maintained according to the applicable regulations and international standards. As the direct report of the ship’s Chief Engineer, the Chief Electrician plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and efficient functioning of the ship’s electrical systems.


ELECTRICIAN
Electrician in a cruise ship is responsible for the proper maintenance and repairs of the electrical systems on board the ship as directed by the Chief Electrical Engineer. The responsibilities of the electricians are distributed among them according to their specific duties. The ship’s electrical equipment/systems that are maintained by the electricians include, but are not limited to, machineries inside the engine room, emergency and auxiliary generators, emergency and auxiliary switchboards, ship’s stabilizers, electrical installations of lifeboats and rescue boats, fire alarm and fire door control systems, lifeboats, mooring and anchor winches, CO2 system, ship’s public address and public clock systems, laundry equipment, swimming pool, and jacuzzi systems. CHIEF REFRIGERATION / HVAC ENGINEER
As the Chief Refrigeration Engineer on a cruise ship, their main responsibility is to oversee and supervise the operation, maintenance, and repair of the ship’s various refrigeration and air conditioning systems, including the HVAC equipment/system, domestic refrigeration plant, ventilation, cooling, freezing, provision equipment, and all air conditioning throughout the vessel. They also oversee the ice-skating arena equipment (available on some ships). The Chief Refrigeration Engineer reports to the ship’s Staff Engineer and Chief Engineer and ensures that all environmental systems within the department are operated and maintained up to the cruise line’s standards and international regulations.
