Job Description:
To lead, manage, and supervise the deck crew (ABs and OSs), ensuring effective, safe, and efficient performance of seamanship duties and maintenance operations on board. The bosun serves as the primary link between the deck officers and deck crew, coordinating work assignments and maintaining high standards of safety, discipline, and housekeeping.
Qualifications:
Valid STCW certification appropriate for the position (e.g., Bosun or higher-rated seafarer).
Extensive sea service experience, including prior leadership of deck personnel.
Strong knowledge of seamanship, deck maintenance, and marine safety standards.
Familiarity with MARPOL regulations, especially Annex V (waste handling).
Experience coordinating between deck and engine departments.
Ability to lead, motivate, and discipline crew members effectively.
Competence in inventory control and requisition procedures for deck stores and equipment.
Good understanding of maritime labor regulations and rest/work hours.
Physically fit for manual and supervisory tasks on deck.
Effective communication skills in English (spoken and written).
