An Assistant Cook in a cruise ship is responsible for assisting the higher-level culinary staff, including the Commis 1, Commis 2, Demi Chef De partie and Chef De Partie, in the preparation and cooking of various dishes. They help in organizing and preparing the mis en place, which includes measuring and mixing ingredients according to the recipe to prepare soups, salads, gravies, desserts, sauces, and casseroles. In addition to food preparation and cooking, the Assistant Cook also performs other tasks such as washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables. They may also be responsible for butchering chicken, fish, and shellfish, as well as cutting, trimming and boning meat prior to cooking or serving.
